Acura ZDX Concept Review
Already the Acura ZDX Concept is a contradiction in terms. It’s being advertised at its New York Auto Show debut as a “4-door luxury crossover coupe”. You can get away with that apparently by hiding the rear door handles in the C-pillar so it really does look like a coupe. It also allows Acura to “define” a new market segment – the coupe-appearing sedan crossover. Oh yes, high ground clearance luxury sedans (or 4-door coupes) are getting the crossover tag.
But enough marketing hooie… the ZDX looks tack sharp whatever you call it.
There’s Acura quality throughout the interior with hand stitched leather dash, instrument panel, steering wheel and seats – all in black and pearl leather. The panoramic all-glass roof continues rearward to the all-glass hatch which covers a spacious cargo area with integrated under floor storage.
Typical Acura personal features include the Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition™, AcuraLink Real-Time Traffic and Weather™, Acura/ELS Surround® premium audio system and Bluetooth® connectivity. There’s also a blind spot information system and a multi-view rear camera for easier parking featuring both wide angle and top down view displays.
And the ZDX will have all the necessary mechanicals for a sporty motoring experience including the all-aluminum VTEC® V-6 coupled with an all-new 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle-actuated Sequential SportShift driving the Acura-exclusive Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®) system right out to the 9-spoke custom alloy wheels with HP 275/40ZR 20 Michelin Latitudes at the business end of the handling equation.
